Karen Hills put on a brave face after luck deserted Spurs Ladies again at the weekend.
After a fine start, the ladies are going through a tough spell at the moment in the FA Women's Premier League South.
Preparations for Sunday's latest fixture against Colchester weren't helped when members of the team were caught up in a road incident that eventually delayed kick-off at Harlow Town FC by 15 minutes.
Colchester took advantage of that disruption to forge into an early lead when Hayley West headed home. Helen Bass then made it 2-0 for the visitors with 20 minutes on the clock.
To their credit, Spurs hit back with two goals in three minutes to level it at 2-2 by half-time.
Wendy Martin converted from Emma Plewa's cross and then with 37 minutes on the clock, Us goalkeeper was adjudged to have carried Martin's header over her own goal-line.
Spurs then struck the woodwork twice at the start of the second half as first Emma Plewa and then Emma Kayser were denied by the crossbar.
Colchester capitalised on their good fortune to regain the lead via Kate Longhurst and then benefitted as a key decision went their way with the award of a controversial penalty, converted for 4-2.
Jess Cheeseman gave Spurs hope with a late third goal but they couldn't find the equaliser their play on the day deserved.
"We were so disappointed not to come away with at least a point as we fought so hard to get back into the game," said boss Karen.
"After all the disruption before the start of the match the girls did remarkably well to haul themselves back into it.
"In doing so, we played some of the best football I've seen from the team this season.
"I'm still very confident that we will turn this run around as the team showed real character against Colchester.
"And it's not like we are getting badly beaten every week, we are not getting the rub of the green."
The ladies are back on the road next week when they travel to Brighton in the Premier League South.
