David Pleat says he cannot fault the application and effort put in by the team against Chelsea on Saturday.
It was something of a patched up side that took to the field at the Lane, with Christian Ziege and Mauricio Taricco doing well to be available following groin and thigh problems respectively and Ledley King turning out after suffering a hamstring injury last week. There were also a number of players who featured on international duty during the week.
"I would say that the message clearly to me is we have a young team that can play with such effort, application and quality at times," reflected the acting boss after the game.
"I look at the players we had away in the week, Keane, Defoe, Gardner, Doherty - they all did splendidly out there. Ledley King gave a massive performance considering he had to be careful all week following his hamstring trouble.
"We just couldn't get that vital goal and I don't think there is anyone who saw the game that didn't think we were worthy of at least a draw."
