We created little going forward in the first half and fell behind when Benni McCarthy applied a headed finish to Morten Gamst Pedersen’s pinpoint cross.
The second half was a different story though and our growing dominance stepped up to another level when Robbie Keane arrived off the bench on the hour. He helped create our equaliser, feeding a pass to Dimitar Berbatov whose shot was parried by Brad Friedel for Jermain Defoe to tap home. The striker was then inches away from a winner when his late, late effort hit the inside of the post.
“We always make it hard for ourselves!” smiled Teemu. “It was the chance to make sure that we'll be playing in the UEFA Cup next season but we couldn't quite do it.
“I think the first half was our worst 45 minutes at home all season. I don't know why.”
It was suggested at that point that perhaps Monday night’s win at Charlton might have caught up with the lads, but Teemu wasn’t taking a way out. “No, we can't say that. No excuses, we just played poorly.
“Blackburn played very well but luckily in the second half we got back into it. After a first half like that we had to come back stronger, we scored the equaliser and had that one last chance when we hit the post.
“At least it’s in our hands against Manchester City on Sunday.”
