This season’s new signings have backed the Club’s official charity partner, SOS Children’s Villages, by signing up to sponsor an SOS orphan.
Rafael van der Vaart, Sandro, Stipe Pletikosa, William Gallas, Younes Kaboul and South African duo Steven Pienaar and Bongani Khumalo have taken out orphan sponsorships in Haiti and South Africa, joining the rest of the first team in backing the charity’s orphan sponsorship efforts.
The Club has had a long-term relationship with SOS Children in South Africa having built an orphan house in Rustenburg. Players have visited SOS villages in both China and South Africa and last summer Michael Dawson met the orphan he sponsors in the SOS Village in Rustenburg.
There are 145 million orphaned children in the world. 100 million more have been abandoned to live on the streets. SOS Children is the world's largest orphan charity and provides a family for life for children who have lost their parents through war, famine, disease, natural disaster and poverty.
Over 78,000 orphaned and abandoned children are cared for by SOS mothers in clusters of family homes in more than 500 Children's Villages in 124 countries worldwide.
There is a continual need for orphan sponsorships so if you’d like to visit an orphan or support SOS Children’s Villages visit www.soschildrensvillages.org.uk
