The German international, of course, suffered the horrendous thigh injury on Boxing Day but made a remarkable recovery and was able to feature for the final half-an-hour against Blackburn in the last game of the season - a run-out that gave him a massive boost.
The gifted wing-back is now seeking kick-start his career again and, on the home front, his marital vows have been renewed after five years to marriage to wife Pia.
Christian takes up the story...
"It was the second time I've been to the church though this time it was for a sort of blessing. We said if we were still together after five years we would go again to the church again because the first time we didn't have the time to do it properly.
"My son was due to be born the first time and my wife said she wanted the chance to look nice - the first time she wasn't that happy about it."
So it has been a busy summer period for the 31-year-old, who has been working hard to complete his rehabilitation back home in Germany. He is currently being put through his paces in La Manga with the rest of the first team squad.
"I was training the whole summer, after the four months out I had to keep going. I saw some physios at Bayern Munich during the holidays, who checked me always and I hope that things keep going the right way.
"After the injury I had you start to see things a bit differently. As I have now said ten or twenty times, I am happy to be out on the pitch and still able to play football. It could have been different if I had got to the hospital later.
"So I am just happy and I feel alright."
It is a case of new beginnings for Christian Ziege this summer - in more ways than one.
