While attention naturally falls on the players when cup finals come around, it is also a very special occasion for the staff as the buzz around the training ground during the build-up reaches fever pitch.
The players and staff have an extra spring in their step as everybody eagerly awaits their ticket allocation to pass on to family and friends. All a bit manic...
"A manic week? It's a cup final week!" exclaimed John. "There is a wonderful atmosphere around the place.
"You could see that in training this morning when we had a little tournament and it was played like a cup final, so it was very interesting.
"It's a great week for us, it's exciting and everybody is looking forward to it."
While John was in tandem with Glenn for World Cup France 98, this is his first club final as a coach and he sums it up as 'special'.
"It is actually and it's very special. I was at the play-off final as a coach with Swindon and that was like a cup final. But this is a real cup final and it's a bit special for us.
"It's especially special for us as manager and coach and we're really looking forward to it. Hopefully it will be the first of many."
Of course, Glenn and John were one step from Cardiff on arrival, but it proved one step too far at the time.
"Well, our first game was an FA Cup semi-final, so that was a nice baptism, a baptism of fire. We didn't make the final but now we have with a great performance against Chelsea and the lads are buzzing.
"We're really looking forward to an appearance at Cardiff and hope to follow it up by going there in the FA Cup as well."
John Gorman is relishing his first major cup final as a coach.
