The Dutch star tore into Boro's midfield from the first whistle and the team's aggression and closing down all over the pitch were key features of the 2-0 win at the Lane.
Another key feature was Jermain Defoe's stunning opening goal minutes into the second half and we sealed the win when Mark Schwarzer allowed Mido's shot under his body.
"It was Edgar's first full game for months," said Head Coach Martin. "He was exactly what I had in mind. In fact, he played better than I ever could have imagined.
"You have to wait and see with that sort of thing because Edgar was injured last week but he did awfully well.
"I think we will be better both mentally and physically because of him."
The victory took us top of the table on Saturday night and we'll stay there going into this week's fixtures - a trip to Blackburn awaits us on Wednesday.
Martin added: "It's very pleasing to have six points now but we shouldn't get carried away. It's only two games but then again, some teams only have one point and we have six, so that's a very good start."
Martin Jol said Edgar Davids 'played like a hero' as we toppled Middlesbrough on his Premiership debut.
