My claim to fame: Ossie's book

Posted on 29 May 2001  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

From Graham Carpenter, Slough: I am mentioned in Ossie Ardiles' autobiography. On the day Ossie and Ricky Villa arrived in London for the first time me and some of my mates went to Heathrow Airport to welcome them.

During the afternoon there were hundreds of Spurs fans at the airport waiting for their arrival. Their flight kept getting delayed until it eventually landed around midnight.

By this time there were six of us left! We spent the last few hours waiting in the arrivals area of Terminal One chatting to Keith Burkinshaw and his wife while we all waited.

A couple of reporters (one of them was the long-haired one from the 'Airport' programme) spoke to us and took our names.

Eventually Ossie and Ricky appeared and we were rewarded with their autographs and a quick 'hello'.

The next day my name and quote appeared in the Evening Standard and the Daily Mirror. Amazingly this is mentioned in Ossie's book and he wrote that he remembered my name!

Perhaps I'll do the same when Zinedine Zidane arrives to sign for us!
