Gareth Bale has underlined the importance of taking our winning momentum into the international break.
Sunday’s thrilling win against Arsenal in the North London derby made it four on the trot in the Premier League – Wolves, Liverpool, Wigan and the Gunners.
The majority of the team joined their international squads on Sunday night or Monday with our next game an intriguing fixture at high-flying Newcastle on Sunday week, October 16.
The four wins have lifted us up to sixth in the table and Gareth says it’s key to have that feel-good factor over the international break, rather than pondering a defeat.
“It was great to get the three points,” said Gareth, who had the honour of retaining his Wales Player of the Year title this week.
“We started well, got ahead and that settled us down. They got one back after the break but I think overall we created more clear-cut chances and we looked like the team that was going on to win and we did that.
“We’ve been on a good run of late, we’ve been playing well and we definitely deserved the victory.
“It’s massively important to have that momentum and to go away on an international break on a high.
“We’ve done that, now it’s important we get everyone back from the internationals fully fit and get our heads back on it.”
We travel to St James Park with Newcastle sitting fourth in the Premier League. “They’ve made a great start to the season.” added Gareth.
“It will be a test for us, but one we’ll be ready for and hopefully we’ll go up there and make it five on the trot in the Premier League.”
