Robbie Keane proudly led out the Republic of Ireland at Croke Park for the first time on Saturday - but the history-making win against Wales had contrasting fortunes for the striker.

The Republic's skipper and record goalscorer set up what turned out to be the winning goal in the first half for Manchester City's Stephen Ireland as his side won the Euro 2008 qualifier 1-0 in the first football match to be staged at the home of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) while Lansdowne Road is redeveloped.

To the delight of most of the 72,539 crowd, Keano's perfectly-weighted pass between defenders allowed Ireland to skip round keeper Danny Coyne and slot home.

Keano had a couple of half-chances himself but his afternoon was soured by a yellow card - meaning he will be suspended for the Republic's Euro 2008 qualifier against Slovakia back at Croke Park on Wednesday.
