The defender is looking for more consistency in the FA Premier Academy League and to go one better in the FA Youth Cup after going out to Ipswich Town in the semi-finals last term.
So impressive in that cup run, Leigh says the belief in the squad has been there since the turn of the year.
“We finished on a high last season even though the FA Youth Cup didn’t go to plan in the end,” said Leigh.
“If we’d have reached the final it would have been great, but we did well and took a lot of positives out of the run.
“We’ve come back this summer and played well in the Eurofoot tournament in Belgium where we finished third. We’ve all worked hard in pre-season and we’re looking forward to it.”
Leigh knows only too well that the lads need to be more consistent even though they only suffered four defeats in the league between November and May.
“We need to do better in the league,” he added. “We’re all determined to win a few more games because we drew too many last season.
“The new lads have settled well but we knew a few of them anyway because they were involved in the Youth Cup and the league towards the end of last season. It’s all gone well so far and it’s looking good going into the new season.”
That season kicks-off at Stoke on Saturday.
