Clive Allen has been impressed with Leighh Mills' continued progress this season.
The first-year Academy player joined his Academy team-mate Charlie Lee to form the central defence against Arsenal on Monday night.
What pleased coach Clive as much as anything was the character Leigh showed to recover from a mistake that handed Arsenal the lead to play his part in a memorable 4-3 victory.
"He showed fantastic character," said Clive. "Both Leigh and Charlie Lee have done well in the youth team this season, particularly in the FA Youth Cup run and they came into this reserve environment, a big test.
"Leigh made a mistake that led to a goal but he held his hands up and what he's done is show tremendous character in terms of the way he played the rest of the game out.
"The mistake didn't affect his performance, he defended in the right way and he could have scored a couple of goals from set-pieces.
"It's all credit to him because he's a fine young prospect.
"He's very hungry, determined to do well, wants to learn and he's made a lot of progress throughout season, culminating in that performance against a two very good Arsenal forwards."
