Clive Allen feels young defender Leigh Mills showed his potential as much as any player in his reserve group last season.
Such praise comes even though Leigh, just 17, only made three starts at reserve level last term. He turned out in the first game at Fulham, shone in a big test at Derby and then recovered from an early mistake that cost a goal to hold his own again against Arsenal.
Coach Clive said: "When the situation arose and Leigh came into the reserve group he showed more than anyone his potential.
"He was stretched and it was a big ask for him to play Fulham away, Derby away — where he was fantastic in a very difficult game — and of course Arsenal.
"He made a mistake against Arsenal, we all understand that, but we saw how he recovered and played the rest of the game. It didn’t affect him or faze him and that was tremendous credit to him."
