Mido was thrilled to get off the mark for the season with the goal that secured a 1-0 win over West Ham.

The striker struck the Hammer blow to visitors shortly before the break when he spun and applied a sweet finish from a tight angle after accepting the ball from Edgar Davids.

"When you get your chance you have to grab it and do your best - that is what happened here," said a smiling Mido after the game. "I was injured and didn't travel to Turkey, which was a big disappointment for me, but I was involved this time and it was my chance to prove myself.

"I am delighted with the performance, the win and the goal.

"It was a tight angle for me, but sometimes you have to try your luck. I took the first touch well, decided to have a go and thankfully it went in."

The question was then put to Mido on whether the team have now travelled through a turning point in the season.

"Hopefully, I am very confident," he replied, before agreeing that backing up the success in Istanbul with three Premiership points was vital. "This is what is good about having 20 quality players. Here there were some fresh players who came in and performed like the others who won at Besiktas."

"I am delighted with the performance, the win and the goal."
