Christian Ziege

Christian Ziege makes his first return to the Riverside on Saturday following his departure to Liverpool in the summer of 2000.

Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle ended his Merseyside misery by bringing him to the capital in the summer and he has fitted in well at White Hart Lane. His six assists for the north Londoners is more than any other Tottenham player. Ziege is working hard to secure a place in the German squad for the World Cup Finals and has won 75 challenges - another club high tally.

Nevertheless he will not find it easy against Boro right-back Robbie Stockdale who had such an impressive game at Manchester United last Saturday. The Redcar-born defender kept close to Ryan Giggs throughout the contest and hardly let the Welsh wizard have any space to roam.

He made three blocks - more than any other player on the pitch - and his overall tally of 25 is the third highest at Boro just behind Gareth Southgate and Ugo Ehiogu. Stockdale is enjoying his best run in the side after failing to establish himself under Bryan Robson and Terry Venables. He is extremely composed on the ball and his passing accuracy of 68% is marginally better than Ziege's.

Despite winning one England under-21 cap in a friendly game, Stockdale has claimed that he would be delighted to play for Scotland as he qualifies for the Tartan Army through his grandparents and was disappointed to have missed out a place in the trip to World Champions France in midweek.

Nevertheless Stockdale can further establish himself this weekend when he lines up against Tottenham in the live game screened on the Premiership Plus channel.
