Gary Doherty paid tribute to the combative qualities of new boy Michael Brown and says that teams need a tigerish element in the midfield.
The recruit from Sheffield United made his debut against Liverpool at the Lane and kept his place for the FA Cup trip to Manchester City. He certainly mixed it in the middle and was on the end of some hefty challenges as City snapped into action in the first half.
"He was really in the wars!" laughed Gary. "That is the way he plays, he likes to get stuck in and is very good at it.
"He gets the ball down, passes it and breaks up moves from the other team. You need players like that in your team and it is something we didn't have - someone who wins battles.
"We've got him and Ledley in there now and they could put a good partnership together."
