Pedro Mendes has joined Spurs from FC Porto with fellow Portuguese international Helder Postiga returning to his former club, in a deal agreed this afternoon.
Postiga has failed to settle in the Premiership since joining us from Porto in June, 2003, scoring just twice in 22 senior appearances.
However, his goal against England in Euro 04 has enhanced his profile at home in Portugal where he was keen to return.
Porto have paid 7.5m EUROS for their returning striker, while we have paid 3m EUROS for Pedro.
Midfielder Mendes (25) played in Porto's Championship League-winning side last season and is acknowledged as a high class playmaker who can also defend.

Commented Spurs Sporting Director Frank Arnesen: "There is no doubting Helder’s ability but maybe he came to the Premiership too soon. He was keen to return home and, although we rate him highly here, we did not like to see him unhappy.
"He has always been a model professional during his time here and we wish him well for the future.
"It is an excellent deal for us because Pedro gives us more options in midfield and brings with him experience in European competition. He has a well deserved reputation on the continent and we are delighted to have added him to our squad.
"I hope that the Spurs fans will take to him very quickly."
