The manager told us he planned to ‘mix it a little’ when taking about a potential squad for the third round tie at Wembley Stadium, connected by EE.
This time last season, Mauricio handed debuts to Academy players Anton Walkes and Marcus Edwards off the bench in the 5-0 win against Gillingham. In fact, six Academy graduates featured with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Harry Winks, Tom Carroll and Josh Onomah all starting.
Asked if younger players were set to be involved again against the Championship side, Mauricio said: “Yes, we are going to mix it a little, maybe some younger players have the possibility to play.
"Our responsibility is to win and it’s good possibility to rest some players and involve some younger players. It’s very good experience for them."
Asked later in the pre-match press conference if any debuts were likely, Mauricio added: “Maybe, yes, maybe a player like Tashan (Oakley-Boothe) will have an opportunity, he will be involved in the squad.”
Pressed further in the press conference on the make up of the squad and if it might be a gamble to rotate the squad too much against Barnsley, Mauricio added: “When you have a squad you need to provide all the players with the opportunity to play.
“The important thing is to win and we want to win. It’s also an opportunity for some players to play because we believe in everyone.
“It’s about playing for Tottenham and we will put on the pitch players who can play in the Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup or Carabao Cup.”
