It was every bit as tough as expected as the game took a similar pattern to our draws against Burnley and Swansea at Wembley - Bournemouth happy to sit deep in a 5-3-2 formation and soak up pressure.
We controlled possession but Bournemouth’s plan worked well in the first half and the visitors came closest when a corner hit Eric Dier just six yards out and flew towards goal only for Hugo Lloris to somehow get down and save on his goal line.
We stepped up in the second half and were boosted when Christian Eriksen scored within two minutes of the restart, a calm finish with his left foot from 16 yards.
Chances followed. Asmir Begovic kept out Harry Kane and Christian and Dele headed just wide as we searched for a second goal but stood firm at the other end, Hugo again there when needed to deny Jermain Defoe.
“We deserved to win in the end and the performance was enough to take the three points,” said Mauricio.
“It’s always tough though. In the first half we dominated but we made a mistake in our positional game and set-up when we had the ball.
“In the second half, we fixed that situation, moved the ball quicker and found better space.
“Hugo is great, one of the best goalkeepers in the world and Christian’s touch was very soft on the goal, a fantastic goal.
“It’s fantastic to win for the players and for the fans. We have a lot of important games ahead now and the feeling is good today.”
