Mauricio Pochettino said Wednesday night's special win against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League was for everyone who loves Spurs.

Dele Alli’s double on 27 and 56 minutes and Christian Eriksen’s cool finish on the counter-attack after 65 minutes put us 3-0 up and in dreamland at Wembley Stadium, connected by EE. Cristiano Ronaldo responded late for Real Madrid.

Just as important, victory secured progression into the knockout stages of the UCL as group rivals Borussia Dortmund and APOEL drew in Germany. We are top and eight points clear of Dortmund and APOEL with two matches remaining in Group H.

To add a little perspective to the result, Real Madrid, holders and winners of the competition in 2016 and 2017, last lost a game in the group stages back in October, 2012 - a run of 30 group matches without defeat.

It has to go down as one of the great results of our Club’s 135-year history, as put to Mauricio afterwards. “That’s true. I feel proud about that and so happy for so many people, our Chairman, our fans, for the Club and for all the people who love Tottenham. It’s amazing.

“I’m very happy with the performance and I congratulate the players, I’m very pleased for them and for our fans and the Club, it means a lot. It’s a great victory for everyone and I’m so, so happy.”

Mauricio reserved all plaudits for the players. “The players deserve the full credit for the performance and the victory,” he said. “They win on the pitch.

“It’s an unbelievable performance, a great victory and now it’s important to enjoy it - but we’re already thinking about an early kick-off on Sunday and a tough game against Palace.”

As for Dele, who missed the first three matches of the group due to suspension, including the draw last time out in the Bernabeu, Mauricio added: “It was a good performance from Dele and he could have scored a hat-trick!

“He’s a very important player for us and he has to keep going, keep improving. I’ve said that he’s getting better and better and the coaching staff feel he’s improving a lot.”
