Bournemouth 1-4 Spurs - Mauricio's reaction

Sun 11 March 2018, 20:55|Tottenham Hotspur

Character was the key word before Sunday’s match at Bournemouth and so it proved as Mauricio Pochettino praised the team’s reaction after going behind early to secure a big 4-1 win at the Vitality on Sunday.

We knew the players would have to dig deep to recover from last week’s defeat against Juventus in the Champions League.

But how about going 1-0 down early against a team on a run of one loss in 10? And how about losing Harry Kane to injury at 1-0 down on 34 minutes? Now that’s a test of character.

The team responded superbly. Dele Alli levelled a minute after Harry’s departure and then set up Heung-Min Son for 2-1 on 62. Sonny made it 3-1 on 87 minutes before Serge Aurier, who crossed for Dele’s leveller, nodded home for 4-1 in added time.

“The team showed massive character,” said Mauricio. “That pleased me the most - after that big disappointment, how the team fought and reacted was fantastic.

“It's always difficult here. It was a tough start because they played at a high tempo but the way we reacted after conceding the goal was most important because in that moment, we showed our character.

“It was good to score four goals away from home, Sonny, a fantastic performance and two goals to help the team achieve what we want.

“The team played well. The performance was fantastic and I'm so pleased for everyone. We needed this victory and we deserved it.”
