Palace v Spurs - Mauricio's preview

Sat 24 February 2018, 12:45|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino knows we have to win the battle first at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

We face a Palace side rejuvenated under the guidance of former England boss Roy Hodgson.

They had lost four out of four in the Premier League when Hodgson took over, a record that stretched to seven out of seven with tough trips to City and United in his early weeks in charge.

However, since then, Palace have lost just five of their next 20 to climb off the bottom and out of the relegation zone.

They’ve lost just two in 11 at home including a win against Chelsea and draw against City.

We’re in fine form ourselves - one loss in 19 and 14 unbeaten in all competitions stretching back to December.

“Roy Hodgson is doing a fantastic job,” said Mauricio. “It will be good to see him on Sunday and at the same time, we know this is a very tough game.

“For me, this is a game where we need to be ready to fight. It’s a battle and more than a game where you only play football.

“First of all we need to match them in all aspects, motivation and the capacity to fight and then try to play and develop our game.”

The team came through with flying colours in recent matches against United, Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League and Juventus in the Champions League but Mauricio will only look forward.

“Every single game is so important – the derby, United, Liverpool, Palace, Huddersfield, with Rochdale in-between,” he said.

“This type of game is key for me for us to get a good place at the end of the season. Palace is more important today than Arsenal or Juventus or Liverpool or United.

“We’re in a good way, the team is doing well and we need to repeat the same type of performance that we showed in the last few games. It will be difficult but we’re capable of winning.”
