A run of huge matches against Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal in the Premier League plus Juventus in the Champions League Round of 16 starts tonight against United at Wembley (8pm).
Jose Mourinho’s men arrive in the capital in second place having stuttered slightly with draws around Christmas but now on the back of five wins in five in 2018 - and with Alexis Sanchez added to their attacking threat.
“The team is okay and ready to compete,” said Mauricio. “That’s most important. It’s a tough, important game against Manchester United.
“After the weekend (at Newport) all the players are ready to compete again.
“United is a massive club, very good team, great manager, great players and it’s always a challenge to play against them.
“The last few years every match against United has been so competitive and we expect a very competitive game, difficult for both sides and we are ready to fight because when you play a team like United it’s important to give your best.”
As for the arrival of Sanchez, Mauricio added: “It’s not only Alexis Sanchez, but plenty of talented forward players. It’s one more player they can add, with top quality. Around him are players like Martial, Rashford, Lukaku, Ibrahimovic, Mata, Lingard and Pogba.
“They are second in the table and for us to challenge them to be in the top four it’s so important to win at Wembley. We are aware of that. It’s a massive game.”
