United v Spurs - Mauricio previews the FA Cup semi-final

Fri 20 April 2018, 18:05|Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino said it would be ‘amazing’ to topple Manchester United and take us to the FA Cup Final.

We take on Jose Mourinho’s men in the semi-final at Wembley on Saturday (5.15pm).

It’s a fascinating tie that needs no further hype. United arrive at Wembley sitting second in the Premier League. We’re fourth, six points adrift but having beaten the Reds at Wembley on 31 January.

“It’s a massive game for us and our fans,” said Mauricio. “We’re all excited with the hope that we can play well and perform in the way we want.

“It will be tough because we’re facing Manchester United, a team with unbelievable players, a fantastic manager and coaching staff.

“We’re in a good spirit, at a good level physically and mentally and we’re going to fight a lot to get to the final.”

Will January’s match (our 2-0 win) make any difference to either team?
Mauricio: “Every game is completely different. It’s one game to reach the final and that is why we need to take it in a different way and need to give our best. That won’t be a problem. We are going to compete, that is always most important and try to win. If our performance is good, the consequence of that will be positive.”

How do you expect the game to pan out tactically?
Mauricio: “It’s difficult to guess what will happen. Look at the Premier League game at Wembley where we scored after 11 seconds - that completely changed the strategy for them and for us. In football, you need to be ready for different things and the way you react is most important. Of course, you have a plan and then you have to perform. Everyone is ready to fight, to compete and in this type of game, that’s most important.”

What would it mean to you to lead us to the FA Cup Final?
Mauricio: “It would be an amazing thing to have the possibility to bring the team to final. It would be a massive achievement for everyone at the Club, players, staff and fans. I hope we play well, that we enjoy it and we can get the possibility to play the final.”
