Having played in Argentina, Spain and France during his career, Mauricio was introduced to festive football for the first time after joining Southampton in January, 2013.
He’s now preparing for Boxing Day for the third time and the second time here at Spurs as we take on Norwich City at the Lane (3pm KO).
“Playing on Boxing Day was new for me the first time but after that, it was good for us,” said Mauricio. “We know what an important day it is for families and for English football.
“We enjoy it a lot and we’re looking forward to it. It’s a special day, different to other days.
“After the victory against Southampton we’re all happy but in football, you need to keep working hard and try to win the next game.”
Mauricio’s family is over from Argentina but he will spend more time with his ‘Spurs family’ with training on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and matches on Boxing Day and December 28!
“My parents are here from Argentina and we will spend the (Christmas) day together,” he said.
“We train Christmas Eve, Christmas Day - maybe we spend more time here at the Training Centre than at my house! But we enjoy it. Our family is now Tottenham and we enjoy our time here.”
