Maurico’s fellow Argentine ran his socks off in the memorable 4-1 victory against City at the Lane last Sunday, a result that moved us up to fifth in the Premier League.
Erik’s tireless display was rewarded with the fourth goal and he was then named Man of the Match by both BT Sport and our fans vote.
Erik was typically modest afterwards, citing the importance of the team, but Mauricio was happy to agree that the forward was producing some of his best displays in a Spurs shirt.

“He was very good and I’m happy for him, he deserves everything and this is a good step,” said Mauricio.
“In football, it’s never easy. You arrive, you are young but at a big club like Tottenham, there is big pressure and when you are injured in your second season (like Erik) it’s difficult. Players need time, - time to believe and time to grow confidence.
“Football is a collective though and the players deserve all the praise from us after this win.”
