It was particularly evident against Liverpool on Sunday that the nifty winger was drifting into more central areas - with or without the ball.
Matty explains that Glenn is encouraging him to do so and not to become isolated on the left flank.
"The manager wants me to do that and not play so much in straight lines down the left. It will get me a bit more involved, which is good."
Matty continued to say that, while the team are naturally disappointed about Sunday's reverse, positives did emerge to take into the Bolton game on Monday.
"We're a bit down, but I think we can take heart from how we played, like I said before. It is another big game on Monday - we've got to make sure we get three points this time and get a run together.
"We want to get into Europe and that is what everyone is aiming for."
Matthew Etherington reveals that he is attempting to add a new dimension to his game that should enable him to see more of the ball.
