Peterborough United 1-4 Spurs XI
All eyes were on Matthew Etherington at Peterborough - and our young wing wizard didn't disappoint.
The 20-year-old joined us from Posh in January 2000 as part of a double swoop with Simon Davies.
This was the first time he had returned 'home' and he revelled in the familiar surroundings of London Road - creating two goals in the first half before crowning his display with a goal in the second.
But this friendly victory didn't come before a fright as Barry Fry's Second Division contenders poured forward early on.
Indeed, with former Spurs star Neale Fenn pulling the strings, Posh went a goal up inside 20 minutes and could have added to that tally before we got into our stride.
Livewire Leon McKenzie fired wide in the ninth minute from Fenn's flick before Gavin Kelly had to be at his best to save Andy Edwards header from David Farrell's corner.
Daniel French opened the scoring for the home side with an outstanding individual effort, beating three players before sliding home past Kelly - and McKenzie produced another save out of Kelly minutes later.
We started coming into the game on the half-hour mark and Etherington's corner somehow evaded Steven Ferguson and Yannick Kamanan.
The equaliser wasn't far away though as Ferguson injected pace into a move, exchanged passes with Kamanan before releasing Oyvind Leonhardsen, who finished in style from 15 yards.
Three minutes later it was 2-1 as Etherington's wicked, whipped in free-kick was volleyed home from close range by Ferguson.
Etherington was there again on the stroke of half-time, spotting Kamanan's run with a defence-splitting pass and the young striker did the rest, taking the ball around Connor before slotting home.
It took just a minute of the second half for another Etherington party piece. Standing over a free-kick fully 35 yards out, he attempted a cheeky shot to the near post, forcing Posh's second half keeper Luke Steele to scramble across and tip around the post.
Kelly saved well from Green after 53 minutes and at the other end, Steele had to save well low from Thatcher and Tom Williams raced across to cover as Kamanan went around the onrushing home keeper.
Etherington's moment came after 78 minutes. Piercy threaded the ball through, Etherington took it in his stride before dispatching it into the bottom corner.
Three minutes later and the winger was replaced by Jamie Slabber to an ovation from all sides of the ground.
