Matchday Xtra - Harry Redknapp

Posted on 3 December 2011  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

We face an extremely tall order now if we are going to progress in the Europa League following Wednesday's match against PAOK.

It took us a while to get going and that is probably what cost us. It was an uphill task after the first 15 minutes but once we scored the penalty before half-time I thought we could go on and win the game.

We certainly went at them after the break, but we just weren't able to get the goals we needed. It was difficult, they got bodies back, and we were unable to break them down.

It is a disappointing result because we wanted to win and it is looking like we will need some sort of miracle to make the last 32 of the competition now.

We have obviously made changes in the Europa League, playing some of the younger players, and it that in itself is one plus point.

Our prospects of progressing now look slim and it is out of our hands. We need other results to go for us and we have to win in Ireland against Shamrock Rovers, which will not be easy.

We have to move on. It is back to Premier League matters today with Bolton Wanderers the visitors as we welcome Owen Coyle, his players, staff and their supporters to White Hart Lane.

Make no mistake, this will be a real test for us this afternoon but we have to try and continue our incredible run in the league and pick up the three points. We shouldn't look further than that. We need to stay focussed and make sure we play well.

Owen is a fantastic young manager and Bolton will try and make it tough for us here, they are a hard-working side.

We have been doing well but it is still early in the season and the competition up at the top of the Premier League is fierce. There are up to seven sides up there battling it out. It will be really tight but we look a good team. We’ve got pace, we’re athletic, we have young players but we also have that experience in the right areas. We are also spreading the goals about the team this year, which is important.

There is not a lot between the sides at the top. You only had to see Liverpool’s game against Manchester City last weekend, there was nothing between them. Any side that can keep their run of results going and can maintain that belief can do it this year. It is an open top group of teams in the division and we are part of it.

Enjoy the game.
