The Irish star's fine finish from 18 yards at the start of the second half to level Zoltan Gera's 12th-minute opener looked set to pave the way for maximum points but it wasn't to be against a Baggies side well worthy of their lead at half-time and determined to leave the Lane with some reward.
Bryan Robson's side were the better side in the first half but Martin Jol rung the changes at the interval and the arrival of Mido in-particular changed the shape of game.
Our intensity upped a level and West Brom were rocking for 15 minutes but with only Keane's goal to show, the arrival of beefy defender Darren Moore helped shore up the visiting defence. From then, it was mainly shots from distance and Russell Hoult was largely untroubled.
We made just the one change from the draw at Liverpool with Jermain Defoe in for the injured Fredi Kanoute to partner Keane up front. Mido and Thimothee Atouba were back on the bench and the likes of Noe Pamarot, Noureddine Naybet, Anthony Gardner, Michael Brown and Pedro Mendes all out.
West Brom started well and it would be difficult to argue that they didn't deserve their lead at half-time. We had bags of possession after Gera's goal but struggled to carve out a chance.
Dawson was forced into a superb block to deny Kanu from close range after only two minutes and Gera somehow missed the target from the rebound. A few minutes later and Clement curled a free-kick against the right upright with Robinson seemingly beaten.
Gaardsoe forced the first save out of Hoult, accidently flicking Carrick's cross back towards his own goal, his keeper digging him out of trouble with a fine tip over. Davis went close before Gera pounced for the opener after 23 minutes. Carrick and Dawson went up with Gaardsoe to meet Chaplow's corner at the near post, the ball squirted out to Gera and the Hungarian drilled into the corner with some style.
Robinson made a key save from Chaplow to prevent it going 2-0 after 29 minutes but it was all Spurs after that, 15 minutes of patient possession that tried to find a way through but couldn't pierce the Baggies defence. Kelly came closest, his header skimming the roof of the net from Reid's corner.
On came Mido and Atouba for Edman and Davis at half-time and the Egyptian international made an instant impact.
He hit the side-netting within a minute after beating two defenders, shot over a few minutes later and then his aerial presence led to the equaliser. Ledley King hit a long ball, Mido went up with Clement and the defender could only head out to Keane to drilled into the corner from 18 yards.
Andy Reid, Simon Davies and Mido again all tried their luck - Inamoto also went close at the other end - before Moore's arrival settled the Baggies back line.
Reid fizzed just wide from 30 yards, substitute Reto Ziegler's clean strike went straight at Hoult and Mido headed over again but West Brom refused to buckle under intense pressure.
Reid and King tried again but the frustration was beginning to show by the time Chris Foy blew for full time.
