Robbie Keane could have completely changed Tuesday morning's headlines when he rose unchallenged to meet Andy Reid's inch-perfect cross just three minutes from time - but didn't connect well with a header and nodded wide from six yards.
We also had appeals for a penalty waved away by referee Mike Riley as the ball clearly rolled over Ashley Cole's arm as he fell trying to shield the ball away from Keane.
In the end, Jose-Antonio Reyes' goal in the 22nd minute was enough for the home side to postpone Chelsea's title celebrations for a few more days.
Jermain Defoe could have put us 1-0 up before that as we started both halves well but it has to be said Arsenal were guilty of some wasteful finishing on the night.
Indeed, they should really have opened the scoring via Reyes in the first minute - missing an open goal - but we soon settled and had the better of the opening 20 minutes.
As we confidently popped the ball around, Kanoute drilled just wide, Defoe's lob drifted a yard wide and then a great chance after 17 minutes. Davis won the ball in midfield, Kanoute fed Defoe who turned inside Toure onto his right foot but went for power and Lehmann was able to block.
The game changed at the half-way point as Reyes made up for his first-minute miss. Fabregas did the hard work in midfield and released the Spaniard who controlled and drilled across Robinson into the far corner.
That appeared to rock us for a little while and suddenly Arsenal were in control.
They went close three more times - Vieira should have done better with a close-range header from Fabregas' deep free-kick after 37 minutes, Van Persie fired inches wide after 40 and a minute later, Reyes picked out Fabregas at the far post and it needed Edman to block his volley. In-between, Kanoute showed Vieira a clean pair of heels in a 50-yard run into the box that ended with penalty appeals following Senderos' challenge, but replays showed the Swiss defender nudged the ball.
The second half followed the same pattern. With the pace of the game more of a jog than a sprint, we again had the better of the first 20 or so minutes without troubling Lehmann. Defoe and Reid shot wide and Dawson headed onto the roof of the net.
As the substitutes came swarming on, Arsenal had chances to put the issue beyond doubt.
Senderos headed over from unmarked from six yards, Toure's 35-yard free-kick flew just over, Edu curled onto the woodwork and Reyes shot into the side-netting 14 minutes from time.
Martin Jol had introduced Mido, Keane and Reto Ziegler by now but Arsenal still created, Bergkamp curling wide and Edman's superb block denied Edu.
Into the last few minutes and appeals for a penalty as the ball appeared to roll over Cole's arm were waved away and then Keane's chance that agonisingly angled wide right in front of the Spurs fans. It wasn't to be.
