On target recently at Southampton the 19-year-old netted twice, including a delightful opener, as we ran out 3-0 winners.
Injured at the same time Jamie Slabber made his impact last season, 'Barney' has been somewhat of the forgotten striker at the club in 2003 but, with his confidence up, that could all change for the better in 2004.
Other notable news saw Christian Ziege complete another 90 minutes and Sunday's goal hero Mbulelo Mabizela untroubled on his return to defensive duties for 63 minutes.
The lads were impressive in the first half. Wimbledon, all heart, had a sight of goal in the first minute and hit the crossbar just after the half-hour, but couldn't rein in the likes of Mark Yeates, John Jackson and Jon Blondel.
With the industry of Mark Hughes and Kazu Toda thrown in, it was somewhat one-way traffic in that opening 45 minutes.
Toda also turned provider for the first and third goals. The opener came after 12 minutes with the Japanese international breaking down the right and cutting the ball back to Yeates, who arrowed his shot into the top corner from 18 yards.
Four minutes later and it was 2-0 and a lovely strike from Barnard. Receiving Marney's pass tight to Oyedele, he spun away from the defender in an instant before drilling home from 10 yards.
The third followed 10 minutes later as Barnard chased down Toda's pass, Martin rushed out and made a hash of it and Barnard rolled the ball home from a tight angle.
Unfortunately, that was the end of the scoring. Wimbledon plugged away in the second half, created a couple of half-chances themselves and dug in defensively as the fourth goal proved elusive.
It wasn't for lack of effort though as Martin saved well on three occasions, most notably when Jackson went through one-on-one after 73 minutes. He also did well to deny Yeates' chip after a delightful one-touch move involving Blondel, Hughes and Barnard.
When Martin was left helpless, Barnard shot into the side-netting from an acute angle and Hughes was a toe nail away from Jackson's cross shot.
