With a decisive Europa League match against the Serie A side in Florence coming up on Thursday and then the Capital One Cup Final against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday, the midfielder is under no illusions as to the importance of the next few days.
“It’s massive – we all want to be playing in the big matches and this club needs to be playing in these sorts of games,” he said.
“Thursday and Sunday are huge matches for the club and everyone involved, so hopefully we can get positive results.”
Our Round of 32 tie with La Viola is level at 1-1 following last week’s first leg at White Hart Lane and although a high-scoring draw or better would see us progress, our midfielder says we will approach the game with only one result in mind.
“They’re a very good side,” he said. “We’re disappointed not to be taking a lead out to Florence but we’ll go there to win the game. It’s important for us.”
Currently fifth in Serie A with only two home league defeats to their name, a trip to Fiorentina will be a challenge but it's one Ryan believes we have to overcome if we’re to go all the way in Europe.
“We were a bit unfortunate in the draw as Fiorentina are one of the better teams in the competition but if you want to win a European trophy then you have to beat the best,” he added.
“If we get through then we’ll look forward to the last 16 but we’re not looking past Thursday yet.”
