Martin Jol pointed to our 'extra quality' as the key as he celebrated 50 games as Head Coach with victory at Wigan.

Robbie Keane's early goal set us on our way to three points with Edgar Davids' terrific second putting daylight between the sides after 72 minutes of Saturday's clash at the JJB Stadium.

Wigan had created little but managed to pull a goal back two minutes from time via Lee McCulloch. Thankfully, there were no late scares.

"This is a place that is not easy to win at," said Head Coach Martin. "But in the first half we took the initiative and then we had the quality combined with maximum effort to get a result.

Maybe it wasn't our best performance but then you can look at the fact that we didn't give away any chances - I can't remember Paul Robinson making a save

"You have to win all your battles and we did that. They are a typical English team and by that I mean they attack the space all the time, they put crosses in the box, players like Francis always try to support the front men, the full-backs get forward - so it's no coincidence that they are a strong team and are doing well, full credit to them.

"As I said, it's not easy to win here but we had the specific qualities to get a win.

"We matched them for effort, which is the first thing you have to do an in Robbie and Edgar we had that extra quality to be that little bit better. I feel we deserved the win."
