Martin Jol was delighted to see Aaron Lennon's promotion to the England Under-21 squad, describing him as a‚ "real Spurs player".

The flying winger received the call from Under-21 boss Peter Taylor this week for European Championship qualifiers against Austria and Poland. He had already been named in the Under-20s squad for a friendly against Holland.

Aaron, just 18, has been in fine form of late, ironically stemming from a 30-minute cameo performance in the disappointing Carling Cup defeat at Grimsby.

That earned him Premiership starts against Fulham, he was named man of the match in the live game against Fulham by Sky Sports - and the win against Charlton on Saturday.

Wayne Routledge is a similar type of player and we bought Aaron as cover for the future

"But Routledge was injured and we lacked width again. I gave Aaron his debut against Liverpool and I thought he did well in the second half and then he was our best player at Grimsby.

"He's very quick and he's a real Spurs player; talented, quick and he can score a goal as well, our fans haven't seen it yet but I promise he can score as well. I'm delighted not just for him but to have him here as well."
