MARTIN'S DELIGHT

Martin Jol highlighted the value of a strong squad after Wednesday night's victory at Manchester City.

Goals from Mido after 31 minutes and Robbie Keane with seven minutes left secured a 2-0 victory at the City of Manchester Stadium.

The result made it three wins out of four over the festive period as we again consolidated our fourth place in the Premiership.

Most pleasing for Martin was how we performed without the likes of Edgar Davids, Teemu Tainio - withdrawals with injury and illness respectively this week - and Ledley King.

Michael Brown came in for only his second start of the campaign and covered every blade of grass in midfield while winger Aaron Lennon caught the eye throughout and set up Mido's crucial opener.

We had a couple of injuries to deal with - Edgar was out, Teemu was ill, Ledley is still out but we showed it is all about our squad

"We had players like Aaron Lennon come in, Michael Brown who is always a favourite of mine because he did so well last season and showed again that he can play in our team easily. That is a great pleasure for me.

"We have a strong team and I was pleased with Aaron as well because he's a wide player and that's exactly what we needed.

"We played well in the first half but needed a second goal because we did not kill them off and Robbie Keane got it.

"I think we looked the better team and to do that against Manchester City is a very good thing."
