Martin Jol - a newspaper and radio pundit throughout the World Cup - tips Italy to win the final against France tonight.

Italy produced the football of the tournament to overcome hosts Germany in the semi-final while France have toppled Brazil and Portugal.

They meet in world football's showpiece game in Berlin, kicking off at 7pm.

"I think it’s a mentally unbelievably strong team in Italy against a quality team in France," reasoned Martin, who is now putting the lads through their pre-season paces at Spurs Lodge.

"Everyone has seen Zidane – he was almost dead and buried, almost ridiculed with Ronaldo before the tournament, but he came back and is probably the best player in the tournament. He’s magical.

"Thierry Henry is getting better and better, Ribery can do something and that’s a difference with the Italians, they don’t have the same flare on the flanks but they are so solid.

"The full-backs Zambrotta and Grosso have been superb and if I had to make a prediction I would say that Italy - with the determination they have shown against the likes of Australia and Germany - will win it."
