Martin Jol had encouraging words for Marton Fulop after the young keeper's super show against Nice.

The Hungarian Under-21 international produced a string of fine saves to deny Nice striker Moussilou in the first half of the pre-season friendly staged in Evian.

Pick of the bunch was his first save – reacting magnificently to palm out Moussilou’s effort from eight yards.

“Marton Fulop was second to none against Nice,†said boss Martin. “He’s our third goalkeeper and he did very well.

“He’s a young player and he wants to play – he did that last season when we put him on loan a couple of times and he did well at Coventry City.

“He’s such a great talent, very young for a goalkeeper and if there is a problem at our club with Paul Robinson, for example, it’s great to know we have the likes of Radek Cerny and Marton.â€Â

Meanwhile, there were also words of praise for midfielder Hossam Ghaly after his performance against Nice – his first game for the first team having spent most of last season in the reserves following his switch from Feyenoord.

“Hossam has to cope with the English game but I was very pleased with him,†added Martin. “He played with passion and that’s always good sign in pre-season, it says he means business this season.

“He’s an international player, last season he was in the reserves and we had so many midfielders. It’s pre-season, everyone gets a chance to prove themselves and he certainly did that.â€Â
