We had a few scares in the first half against Norwich City on Boxing Day but I did warn the lads before the game. Norwich have played 18 games, but they haven't lost ten or eleven and have had five draws, for example, away from home out of nine games.
They are on the edge all the time and not easy to beat. The first 15 minutes were a bit scary and they had two or three chances that hit the post and we gave the little fellow Bentley too much space to get his shots in and dribble with the ball.
In the second half though, I thought we played one of the best 45 minutes since we've been here. Carrick was majestic, Brownie played well and did what I asked of him by scoring a goal. I told him before the game to get a couple of shots in.
So I thought we played much better in the second half and could have scored three or four. I am very pleased with the win and it is our fifth on the trot.
I bought Jermain Defoe on but it was Robbie Keane who ended up scoring the first goal. It is all about quality, you wonder whether you should get Fredi Kanoute or Keane off and I made the decision to take off Kanoute and Keane scores. You have to be a little bit lucky.
We quickly turn attentions to Crystal Palace and our only problem resulting from Norwich is that Thimothee Atouba is injured. This is a disappointment, but I hope he can play because he did well the other day against Southampton.
We do have fresh players for Tuesday.
