The young midfielder's season and arguably career completely turned around when Martin Jol handed him a chance against Everton on New Year’s Day. Dean responded with a dazzling two-goal display and has been in just about every squad since.
Premiership minutes have still been at a premium though for the 21-year-old as he's often found himself as an unused substitute or 17th man in the 16-man squad on a matchday.
He wants to put that right with a final salvo at the Lane on Sunday. "I’d love to play and everyone is the same," said Dean at Spurs Lodge. "It’s a massive game and you want to be involved.
"Hopefully I’ll be on the bench and play some part but I'll have to wait and see.
"If I play I’ll be very happy. To be in the squad is better than missing out but sometimes when you are 17th man you wonder 'why me?'. You just have to keep working hard and the gaffer has been pleased with what I’ve done in training, so that’s all I can do really.
"He says a lot of good things and has given me things to work on. He's said pre-season is important for me, to come back a little stronger and on top of my game. There is one game to go though and I hope to be involved."
Dean Marney would love to cap a dream six months with an appearance in Sunday's crunch finale against Blackburn Rovers.
