Marney the role model

Posted on 16 June 2005  - 12:00

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Football Club is located in North London. The club is also known as Spurs. Tottenham's home ground is White Hart Lane. The club motto is Audere est Facere (To dare is to do).

Clive Allen believes Dean Marney is the perfect role model for our younger players.

The midfielder's performances in pre-season and for the reserves were finally rewarded with his full home debut against Everton on New Year's Day. As they say, the rest is history.

Dean marked his call up with a stunning two-goal display as we ran out 5-2 winners against a side destined for fourth place.

The Academy product went on to make eight appearances in total last season and reserve coach Clive uses that to underline to his squad what is possible.

"You hope that the young lads can go into the senior group, establish themselves and Dean has been an example," said Clive

"He’s a great example to all the young lads who come into the Academy. He has a desire to do well for the club, it’s his club and he’s a perfect role model for many young players.

"It was interesting when he went into the first team because he had been playing well for the reserves at the time.

"Martin asked me how well I felt he was doing and if he could go into the first team and we all know what happened next in terms of how he played against Everton and his performance at Old Trafford.

"Dean has progressed as an all-round professional footballer and he’s been rewarded with an extension to his contract, which he deserved."
