Marcos' pre-season diary

First team coach Marcos Alvarez gives us the inside track as pre-season preparations continue in Spain.

Marcos will give us the rundown on what the lads are up to on the training ground as they prepare for the big one - the Barclays Premier League kick-off at Middlesbrough on August 16.

Days 12, 13, 14 - July 14, 15, 16

"FOOTBALL was the key on Monday and Tuesday.

"We played against Tavernes on Monday, we won easily but we needed that game to look at our shape on the pitch and our movement.

"We slowed it down on Monday morning to prepare for the match and then every player played for 45 minutes. That's enough for now.

"On Tuesday, the squad went to the spa and had massages after the match the night before, then we had a normal football training session in the evening.

"We started running again on Wednesday. This was about speed and power, sprinting up the hills at the golf course and back to the beach for the running in the sand, again, ideal for power work.

"The work was shorter in distance and we were looking at more technical aspects and a higher pace.

"To finish, we had a football session and this was again about speed, counter-attacking and tactical aspects of the game."
