We started well, controlled the first 20 minutes and saw a couple of chances come and go, most notably Christian Eriksen lobbing onto the roof of the net when through one-on-one with Sergio Romero.
United’s goalkeeper went on to make two key saves late in the game – both from Christian – as we pushed for a share of the spoils. Romero went off to a standing ovation.
However, Kyle Walker’s unfortunate own goal after 22 minutes proved the difference between the teams.
“We played very well and we’re pleased with our performance but disappointed with the defeat,” said Mauricio.
“For the first 20 minutes we managed the game well, we dominated and created chances.
“We were unlucky because we conceded a goal through our first mistake. After that, it’s true, United started to play at the same level as us but in the second half we deserved to score again. We finished the game in a high tempo and showed we’re in a good way.
“We need to be happy. We’re at a good level and we need to believe.
“It was very different from last season when we didn’t have a chance, but this time we deserved not only a draw but maybe even a win.”
