Our Under-18s are a point away from the quarter-finals of the prestigious Copa Chivas tournament in Mexico after crushing Norwegian side Stabaek 5-0 on Tuesday.

The lads need a draw in their final group fixture against Cruz Azul of Mexico on Thursday to guarantee a place in the last eight.

They made it three wins and a draw from four group games with four goals in the second half against Stabaek at the Club Providencia Stadium, Zapopan, Jalisco.

The win included four fine strikes from distance as the lads stretched their defensive record to four clean sheets in four games - the only side in the 24-team tournament yet to concede a goal.

Coach Alex Inglethorpe reported: "We went ahead early thanks to a long-range strike from Jon Obika and controlled it from there.

"We could have been two or three up by half-time but it stayed at 1-0.

"We scored early again in the second half thanks to a superb free-kick from 20 yards from Ryan Mason.

"Yuri Berchiche then scored from distance, another lovely strike and then youngster Harry Cane scored. He's an Under-16 player out here with us and he capitalised on some good work from Paul-Jose M'poku to score the fourth goal.

"We saved the best until last as Adam Smith came forward from the back and hit a 30-yard shot that just flew in.

"We couldn't have asked for more so far, particularly defensively. To keep four clean sheets in four games at this level and in this heat is a fantastic achievement."

Spurs U18s: Butler, Nicholson, Smith, Kasim (Cane), Berchiche, Caulker, Fraser-Allen, Bostock, Obika (Oyenuga), Mason (Parrett), Townsend (M'poku).
