OJ Mabizela could not hide his delight on Saturday afternoon when asked for his reaction to South Africa being awarded the 2010 World Cup finals.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter made the announcement earlier in the day in Zurich and the national team captain says the staging of what many people feel is the greatest show on earth will be a lift for the whole nation.
"It is a very great thing to happen to South Africa, not just football people, but the whole of South Africa.
"I think it will change many peoples lives - it really gives us all something to build towards and look forward to."
Despite the event being some six years away, the 23-year-old OJ has time on his side and is already pondering the prospect of taking part.
"Of course, and it will be a matter of taking care of myself to make sure I don't miss it. It will be a good thing for me to take part in the World Cup on our home grounds in front of our own people.
"I am looking forward to it already."
