The French national team manager was revealed as our Head Coach yesterday and will join us after leading France in the European Championships.
Jacques joins our new Sporting Director Frank Arnesen as Chairman Daniel Levy introduced a more continental style to our management and coaching.
Lane legend Gary, skipper for most of his 16 years at the club, said: "Jacques Santini was even a surprise to me but I'm sure there will be a smile on a lot of Tottenham fans' faces today.
"It's been a long time coming after Glenn's dismissal and I'm sure the fans will be delighted with the appointment.
"I think the chairman came out soon after Glenn left and said that he didn't want to rush into a panic appointment of a new manager, he wanted to bide his time to find out who exactly who he felt was the best person for the job and to get the best person available.
"Certainly, while it's been a long time, the appointment of Jacques Santini and Frank Arnesen as Sporting Director are two excellent appointments.
"They are both very highly respected in the game and their experience of both European and international scenes are immense, so there is rightly a lot of optimism for next season.
"He had a very good playing career and his managerial career has spread across a number of French clubs, won the championship with Lyon, so he's certainly got the pedigree from his playing days, coaching and now managing the French side.
"His experience is there, he's a thorough manager and I'm sure if he can get Tottenham playing like the French national side everyone will be happy!"
Gary Mabbutt already feels a new sense of optimism at the club following the appointment of Jacques Santini.
