Legendary former skipper Gary Mabbutt joined Tottenham Hotspur football development coaches in Singapore to launch a nine-day Spurs coaching programme in the region.
The Club has received the backing of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) for the programme, which aims to strengthen football in Asia.
The International Player Development Course, open to young people between six and 16-years-old, began on Monday.
The initiative will start with a free of charge open trial session to identify the most talented local players, each of which will receive a fee waiver for the course.
As part of the relationship with the FAS, the development team will provide coaching support for the Youth Olympic Games FAS football team. Gary, along with his team of experienced Premier League coaches will work with the Singapore YOG football team over three special training sessions during the period.
The first session will be led by Gary and the next two will be taken by Chris Ramsey, our Academy's Assistant Manager and Head of Player Development.
To facilitate a sharing of best practices, experience, capacity building and transfer of knowledge, FAS and various schools coaches have been invited to attend the sessions.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with FAS and bring the International Player Development Course to Singapore," said Gary. "While the course will be the focus of our visit, we are also looking to form long-term partnerships and deepen our engagement with players, coaches and fans alike in Singapore."
During his visit, Mabbsy also took time out to join the Singapore Spurs Supporters Club for ‘An Evening with Gary Mabbutt', which involved a question and answers session with Gary before he watched our game against Wolves with members of the club.
