The versatile defender has been selected again for the England Under-21 squad for Thursday’s friendly against Mexico at Filbert Street and the European Championship qualifier in Greece on June 5.
It has been a long, injury-hit season for Luke but he has still managed to play 29 times, including 20 Premiership starts.
He’s happy for that season to be extended for a fortnight with England — but admits he would love to play to make that extra work worthwhile.
Capped eight times so far, Luke said: “As long as I’m in the starting line-up I’ll be happy to be there but you don’t want to spend that time there and not get on or not be a part of the side that plays. It would be nice to play.
“It won’t be hard to motivate myself for another couple of weeks, not when it’s England. It’s always nice to represent your country.”
Luke Young hopes to finish what has been an up and down season on a high by taking his tally of England Under-21 caps into double-figures.
