Attacking right-back Kyle Walker-Peters got forward to fire us ahead in our quarter-final clash at the City Ground, before Ismail Azzaoui doubled our lead from the left side of midfield as we established a two-goal advantage shortly after the hour mark.
Matthew Cash pulled a goal back for the hosts on 71 minutes, with defensive midfielder Luke helping to keep Forest at bay in the closing stages as the tie ended 2-1 in our favour.
Reflecting on what at times was a physical battle, Luke confirmed: “It was a tough game against tough opposition. We had to battle and it was a different game to the last round against Manchester United, but we’re delighted that we’ve got through.
“We’re used to the pressure, United tried to put pressure on us like Blackburn did in the third round, so when Forest got it back to 2-1 we still had the belief and still felt confident of winning.
“We earned the space to play, we outfought them and that gave us time to play. We had brilliant wide men like Kyle and Ismail, who frequently beat their men and provided an end product, and there were other big performances in the game. Cameron Carter-Vickers came up with a vital block at the end, so we’re delighted with how it went.”
