Luka Modric insisted the players ‘tried everything’ to topple Manchester United on Sunday.
The midfield maestro was at the centre of our efforts to breakthrough a stubborn United defence as it ended goalless at the Lane.
Luka, deservedly named Man of the Match by Sky Sports, helped set-up our two best chances as Peter Crouch volleyed just wide in the first half and Rafa van der Vaart curled inches wide 10 minutes from time.
“We knew we hadn’t beaten United for a long time but we approached the game wanting to win and we tried everything,” said Luka.
“We fought for every ball, created some chances but we couldn’t score and couldn’t beat them. We’ll just have to wait for our next opportunity.
“We need to be satisfied with a point against probably the best team in the country.
“They haven’t lost a game in the league all season and we need to keep going and see where that will take us. I hope we can achieve fourth place or even more.”
As always, Luka was modesty personified, pointing to the team’s performance rather than talking up his own.
“I’m happy with how I’m playing but for me, the most important thing is that the team is playing well,” he said.
“If the team is winning, then you can also play well. Without the team, it’s hard for you to play well. It’s a team game and that’s what matters.”
